“I had a breakthrough session with Dt. Titus McMillan. No other therapists, including psychiatrists, addressed that I was referring to my father, Jim, with schizophrenia as my schizophrenic father. He said, "Kevin, the physical end emotional abuse you experienced as a child into your young adulthood was awful. What I felt I needed to comment on is that you are labeling him as your schizophrenic father. You aren't using his name. Kevin, the man has a name." After over 10 years of counseling for PTSD that developed as a result of the abuse, I finally have the liberation that comes from not seeing my father as a disease, but more as a flawed person with mental illness. I'm finally having the weight of the lies he spoke over me lifted. I'm not the failure my father, Jim, said I was. I'm not a loser. I'm a winner. My Dad would always compare me to my older brother. He said, "Your brother is smarter than you'll ever be." The truth is that I'm an extremely intelligent man, who has dealt many years with a lack of confidence in my abilities and potential. As I continue to receive counseling from Dr. Titus McMillan, I see possibilities for myself in my career that I would have never taken on without his help. One of the root issues affecting the way I perceive myself has been exposed. We haven't spoken in a long time but I quote you often. You told me the phrase "confessions are gifts you can't take back". I found this to be very true. I was thinking about this yesterday when I was having dinner with a man who I found extremely attractive and we were on our second date. He took me to a beautiful restaurant and then disclosed that he had done 12 years in federal prison for drug trafficking. I never would have attached that history to that face. I could tell he didn't want to tell me and yet wanted to tell me at the same time. I told him I wouldn't judge him and he told me the most incredible tale I have ever heard. I'm a middle school teacher so he thought I was going to get up and run out the door but I didn't. I say all this to say that truths are very unburdening but sometimes involves risk. And although this was his confession he was very relieved not to hide it from me and I was relieved that we could that we could talk about it. It's something that we cant undo yet it's exposure made us closer. Thank you. Walking In Restoration
Healing Inside Me is a place where one comes to find inner healing and freedom. Dr. McMillan sets a safe atmosphere where the client is able to talk about the hurts from yesterday. His ability to be empathetic and sympathetic allows trust to be built between therapist and client. My personal experience with Dr. McMillan is that he is a phenomenal vessel that God uses to bring peace to one's life. He has been able to pinpoint the misbeliefs that I have made concrete in my mind and helps bring them into the submission of God's truth. The most important factor in a counseling session with Dr. McMillan is that he allows the Holy Spirit to be present and guide the session. It has only been a couple of months of me seeing Dr. McMillan, and I am seeing restoration in my life. I am walking in freedom and believing God for what he has ordained for my life. Healing Inside of Me that is exactly what happens when seeing Dr. McMillan, he could have not chose a better name for his practice.
